Hello Mr.

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

The gay, indie magazine you know and love is returning to print, with our thickest spine yet: we’re making a book! Next year marks the magazine’s 10th anniversary, and we’re opening up the vaults for one last hurrah.

Since its debut, Hello Mr. represented the expansive possibilities for publishing queer stories–whether written, visual, or somewhere in between. For many readers it was the first gay magazine they owned; some were so compelled by its contents that they came out as gay themselves. For countless contributors, Hello Mr. was the first place their work had appeared in print. The emerging voices that gave this magazine its shine have become internationally celebrated for their work, carrying our legacy with them.

In the commemorative book, forthcoming from ABRAMS in 2023, we’ll catch up with several of these contributors in a curation of previously published works. In keeping with our mission, we’re saving room for a new class of contributors, highlighting work from the emerging and established talent of today. Though we launched with the tagline “men who date men,” you don’t have to be one to be in the book.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR: We accept written and visual submissions of all kinds, from queer writers, on queer and queer-adjacent topics. We’re particularly interested in topics like heartbreak, mental health, living with HIV, sex work, trans and nonbinary identity, spirituality, capitalism, race, class, disability, bisexuality, erotica, freedom, beauty, truth, love.

Accepted works will be paid and require a non-exclusive agreement to be published in the book.

Submissions due before July 10, 11:59PM EST.
